Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs): Comfort and Strength

Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) are a great option for many styles of homes in the Ocean View area. This modern material is not yet well-known on the U.S. market, but it’s quickly becoming our favorite.

What makes this material stand out for us is its durability. The concrete forms provide exceptional resistance against wind and water compared to just about any home-building material out there. You can see on our ICF page that these homes can survive a hurricane.

The material cannot be colonized or consumed by insects such as termites (no small problem in Delaware). Overall, it has an estimated lifespan of over 100 years, which means it could still be standing for your great-grandchildren to enjoy.

The durability of these homes should leave you with more peace of mind, but ICFs are also some of the most comfortable homes because of how well the material preserves indoor temperatures, and how consistent the temperature is from room to room.

Using concrete doesn’t put any limits on the appearance of your house. You may hear concrete and imagine some concrete federal building, but the fact is ICFs can be fitted with any siding you like. The exterior can take the appearance of stone, brick, lumber—whatever you like.

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)

Structural Insulated Panels are just another modern material that our builders use on our new custom homes at Excel Builders. These panels can be manufactured to size and cut to shape to create the exact look you want for your home.

SIPs are formed of 2 sheathing panels with an insulating foam between them. When the panels are connected at the edges, they chemically bond with a tremendous amount of strength. Combined with other strategies, they can make your home far more efficient thanks to low amounts of energy lost between the panels.

The panels used for your construction can be assembled off-site. This means your house can be put together more quickly than with other materials, and there’s less site waste produced.

You can find out more about this amazing material on its page here.

What Do You Recommend for Homes in Ocean View, Delaware?

Homes in Ocean View should be strong. Ocean View is considered to be a high risk hurricane storm zone. You need a home that offers some resistance to high winds and heavy rains.

Homeowners in Delaware have been managing these risks for a long time now. If you’re new to the area as a retiree, we can help you design a home that takes advantage of the local wisdom about protecting homes from the weather.

The primary building material play a huge role in how well a home can stand up to the weather. You’ll be facing high winds during storm season, so you need a material that stands up well to that. Insulated Concrete Forms and SIPs are both highly resistant against wind.

Stone and brick can also offer more protection against wind than other materials. Talk to us about improving any home design to be more wind resistant.

Rain and humidity resistance are some other factors you’ll need to consider when building a custom home in Ocean View. Some popular home design choices from around the nation may be significantly more high maintenance here because of the humidity.

This is something you can easily control with custom choices. Metal roofing can offer long-term resistance against water. Several of our materials (such as ICFs), simply cannot rot and are therefore face one less threat from high humidity.

Any home built in Ocean View should take advantage of what the area has to offer—the gorgeous views of the Atlantic. Great bay windows can help you enjoy the view from the comfort of your home. You can also enjoy it outside from a balcony or multi-level deck.

We’re Also Excellent Contractors!

Homebuilding is what made us famous in Delaware, but we offer many other construction services for your home and the land all around it. We are also one of the most experienced full-service general contractors serving the area.

Our team takes on large-scale projects that may require participation from plumbers, electricians, roofers, and more. We can help you fully design these projects to fit within building codes, and then build while managing any special artisans involved.

Just like our homebuilding services, our general contracting services are executed with the highest possible quality. We use high-quality materials that are covered by warranties to ensure you have the best possible protection for years to come.
